March-Westin Rolls over Rollos, Sends Jordan Auto Parts to Junkyard as They Win Three Straight to Claim Title 5

Posted by Scott in March-Westin (Tuesday October 18, 2005 at 5:42 pm)

March-Westin beat all odds Wednesday night as they plowed through the playoff bracket on their way to the championship series.

The first game of the night was against Rollos, the team that sent Westin to the loser’s bracket in the first game of the playoffs. MW would not allow that early playoff loss to go unavenged.

MW was led by unstoppable hitting, such as Scott’s in-the-park grand slam and solid hit after solid hit by fellow former Lewis County resident Dave. Westin also received a strong outing from the bullpen with Adam replacing James on the mound, as James was unable to attend the nights games.

Jackson returned to the lineup for Wednesdays run at the championship, although it took a little bit for him to shake off the rust as he took a big swing at his first pitch, connecting with nothing but air. However Jackson continued his consistent play in the field at SS, then in later games moving to RC as March-Westin rearranged their defense to keep fresh players in key positions.

Westin continued their success, showing no signs of fatigue as they took on Jordans Auto Parts in the championship series. Because the playoffs are double elimination, and Jordans failure to lose a game to this point MW would have to beat them twice in order to become champions.

The first game was hard fought, with numerous lead changes. Eventually requiring extra innings to determine a winner. March-Westin, with their home field advantage, was able to take the lead in the bottom of the 8th, forcing a second and final game against Jordans.

MW continued to ride the emotional charge as they started off their third game of the evening right where they had left off, showcasing solid defense and amazing hitting. All Jordans could do was bicker amongst themselves as they sensed victory slipping from their hands to a team who was still going strong in spite of this being their fifth game in just two days.

When the evening pulled to a close, March-Westin had played 22 innings straight of softball, and won their first championship.

Other notable performances for the night include (but are not limited to) Nicks third 3-run homerun in two days. Mark was awarded the web-gem award of the night with his diving catch in left-center field. Wimer had a clutch triple in the final game. And Dave had a very heads up play as he threw out a runner at first from shortstop when the runner casually “made the turn” towards second base.

All March-Westin team members are instructed to contact Coach Tom for details on the award dinner.

MW Sends Allied Waste to the Cleaners 0

Posted by Scott in March-Westin (Thursday October 13, 2005 at 10:29 am)

March-Westin upset the heavily favored Allied Waste in their second game Tuesday night.

MW showed no signs of letting up as they battled their way through a game that saw numerous lead changes.

Perhaps March-Westin was remembering the words of their fearless leader Coach Tom who said, “We can probably make it one time through the (batting) order before they realize we can’t hit and start playing us short.” Truly great words of wisdom from an experienced veteran.

Emotional pre-game speeches aside, Nick continued his postseason success as he blasted another 3-run homer, as did Coach Tom who posted not one, but two triples. Wimer struggled throughout the night, but would find his swing in the final innings, when it counted the most.

It all came down to the bottom of the 7th with March-Westin was down by three. With contributions from Adam, Tom (triple), Wimer, and Johnny, the stage was being set for a come from behind victory. James then singled on an error, moving Johnny, the winning run, to third, and him to second. With no outs, all that was needed was a sacrifice fly to score the runner on third. Scott would not disappoint, as he belted a fly ball deep into center field, easily scoring Johnny, and moving Marh-Westin on to join Jordans and Rollos as the only teams still standing.

March-Westin Idles Past Mo-Town Diesel 0

March-Westin defeated Mo-Town Diesel by 10 runs in their first game of the evening Tuesday night.

Westin showcased unstoppable hitting from all players as they turned out base hit after base hit. Big Nick once again stepped up to the bar to order his favorite drink… Jack! Crushing the ball over the left center fence for a 3-run homerun.

Johnny was able to cap off the game in the bottom of the 5th by punching in the 10th and game winning run.

Westin Marches Deeper Into Bracket. 0

Posted by Scott in March-Westin (Tuesday October 11, 2005 at 3:41 pm)

Amidst much controversy March-Westin pulled out a victory Monday night against Dalton’s Logging to move one step closer to the BOPARC championships.

Due to a miscommunication between referees, Coach Tom was not given a playoff bracket, nor was he informed of March-Westins next game after their Thursday night win. Because of this team members were not told that they would be playing until a mere 4 hours before game time. However, through some quick phone calls by Tom a full roster was assembled in time.

It was a defensive battle as both teams failed to put any sizeable rallies together. Rather grinding out a couple runs here and there each inning.

“It was a well fought game, but hopefully we can be better prepared mentally for tomorrow’s game.” said Scott.

One team member this roster did not include was Jackson, a surprise which has been the cause of numerous rumors and allegations. It is yet to be determined if disciplinary actions will be taken against him.

March-Westin plays again Tuesday night at 7pm on Whiston Field as they take on MoTown Diesel. The winner of that game will play again at 9pm.

Playoffs – Game 2 3

Posted by Scott in March-Westin (Friday October 7, 2005 at 3:22 pm)

Note: This article is a continuation of the series documenting the March-Westin playoff run.

The real #1 seed arrived ready to play for Thursday’s game against Galloway’s Florist. Not only more attractive than their stunt-doubles, the true March-Westinites are far better athletes.

Midway through the game Nick received some valuable swing coaching from Jackson, providing immediate improvement as he blasted one out of the park on his next at bat. Not to be outdone, Jackson stretched out a poorly handled line drive to the outfield for an in-the-park homerun.

Scott who was recently upgraded to the #9 position in the batting order, blooped to right field, which with his blazing speed, resulted in a stand up triple. Coach Tom was perfect at the plate, and if all of this was not enough, James did not even strike out (Editors Note: “newsworthy statistics are different for pitchers”).

Dave continues to suffer as he adds another injury to the growing list. This time a line drive takes a nasty hop and lands a vicious uppercut to his face. After the incident Scott was quoted as saying, “I’m not worried, those Lewis County boys, their tough.”

Also team pansy (Galloway’s Florist) demonstrated their lack of baseball experience as they mistook Coach Tom for Barry Bonds, intentionally walking him to pitch to Jennings, MW’s #3 hitter. In addition, it was overheard that the outfield played deep when Dave came to the plate, citing he was a ‘good hitter’. Both are obviously mental mistakes on their part.

When the dust finally had settled, March-Westin walked off the filed victorious with a final score 19-12. Westin will look to continue their success next week as the BOPARC NIT tournament continues.

Playoffs – Game 1 0

Posted by Scott in March-Westin (Friday October 7, 2005 at 3:21 pm)

The #1 seed March-Westin failed to show up for their first playoff game of the Fall season as they faced the #8 seed Rollo’s Law Office. Instead a group of MW look-alikes arrived in their place. The only problem with this strategy is the impersonators were not nearly as talented as the actual March-Westin team.

Due to this turn of events MW dropped their first game of this double elimination playoff series 10-20.
