Westin strikes fear in hearts of opponents 2

Team Allied Waste failed to show up for March-Westins first game of the Thursday doubleheader. It is apparent that they have been reviewing the March-Westin scouting report and knew that they stood no chance.

Allied Logging however, was evidently lesser informed and arrived for the 7 o’clock game to meet their fate.

Jackson started off the game appropriately with an in-the-park home run to left field; only to be shortly thereafter followed up by a 2-run blast by Nick. Westin continued the solid hitting throughout the game as they cruised to a 17-7 victory.

Coach Tom returned to the lineup, but was not exactly a threat as he went 0-2 with a sacrifice fly to right filed. Tom’s inability to produce in his first outing is further fueling concerns that his lack of playing time as of late may affect his timing at the plate. Nick said of Tom’s hits to right field, “I don’t know what he was doing, maybe he had a crush on the right fielder and wanted to make him look good.”

But even with the weak link at the helm, MW continued to showcase solid fielding and smart base running, two aspects that are critical for success in this league.

Thursday nights wins puts March-Westin’s record to 5-3 (.625).

March-Westin will look to continue its newfound winning streak this Monday as they take on Galloway’s Florist (6:00pm) and ISR (7:00pm).

Even passengers watch plane’s drama on TV 0

LOS ANGELES — The safe landing of a JetBlue Airways plane with faulty landing gear last night ended a drama carried live by television that riveted viewers outside — and inside — the aircraft.

Passengers said they had watched their own crisis unfold on the news on in-flight televisions until they were turned off just before landing.

March-Westin stays at 500 mark 0

March-Westin split a pair of games Monday night as they faced team BOAZ and team NAPA.

Once again MW struggled in their opening game only to go on to play with new found motivation. This motivation would prove to be a much needed ally for Westin, as their second game of the night was against undefeated, and highly regarded NAPA.

Shawn returned to the lineup at the shortstop position but struggled at the plate, only producing 1 hit. However, the hit came at a critical time as MW began to stage a pair of late inning rallies.

Without question the Pontiac Game Changing Performance Award goes to Jackson. Jackson crushed a grand slam over the left center field fence in the bottom of the 6th to give March-Westin a commanding lead over NAPA.

Other notable performances include Mark who filled in at 3rd base and was impressive on both sides of the ball, making numerous catches as well as producing solid hit after solid hit. At the often overlooked catcher position was Wimer, who was able to put the tag down not for one, or two, but for three plays at the plate. This proved to be a huge emotional boost to team MW. “Anytime you can get an out and stop a run from coming in, people are going to get excited,” Koon said.

With their latest upset March-Westin is quickly becoming the team to watch. If their hitting continues to produce some critics say they have a legitimate chance to win any game at any time.

Coach Tom returns to the lineup this Thursday after a 4 game hiatus. However, after what is arguably the biggest win in March-Westin history, many are wondering if this could effect the team chemistry. Nick has been filling in with coaching duties during Tom’s absence.

March-Westin will face Allied Waste and Dalton Logging Thursday starting at 6:00pm and 7:00pm respectively.

MW splits Doubleheader 0

March-Westins first game of their Thursday night doubleheader was a rather forgettable loss to team PASS. However, the second game of the night against Laurel Homes was anything but that.

Westin quickly bounced back from their loss. Led by the solid hitting of Brian Bailey, who traveled from Weston to join the team. It was a hard fought game as both teams had numerous 2-out rallies. March-Westin suffered several injuries as they clawed their way towards victory. Dave (ankle), Scott (wrist), Wimer (thumb), Nick (hand), and Bailey (knee) were all struggling through their own pain for the better of the team.

“Our guys showed a lot guts going out there with all their injuries, we weren’t going to let this win slip through our hands.” Said Nick, who was filling the coaching responsibilities as coach Tom was out of town. Nick went on to report that as Bailey’s knee was bleeding from sliding into the fence while chasing down a fly ball he responded in the classic Jesse Ventura of Predator fashion “I ain’t got time to bleed.”

Nick also homered in two consecutive at bats (a 3 run HR and a 2 run HR). The second of which was during one of the many, and now infamous, 2-out rallies.

When all was said and done and the dust had settled, March-Westin walked off the field victorious in a 30-26 win that lasted a grueling 1 hour and 27 minutes.

March-Westin stays at .500 with a 2-2 record.

Another doubleheader is scheduled for Monday night starting at 7pm.

James and Shawn return to lineup, Westin Gets Win

Westin showed new signs of life as they showcased talent at all positions on the field Tuesday night.

With the highly anticipated return of Shawn to the lineup, and the availability of James on the mound, Westin was given new energy and solid fielding all around as it secured its first win of the season. MW looked in control the entire game as they cruised to a 16-6 victory.

“This is the fun time of the year,” said Koon, who is now considered one of the most reliable MW team members. “This is what you play the whole season for. … If you don’t play [well] in September, there’s no October.”

March-Westin is scheduled for a doubleheader this Thursday at 8:00pm and 9:00pm as they take on PASS and Laurel Homes.

Westin Drops Season Opener 0

March-Westin lost a tough one last night as they fell to the WVU Hospital team.

The team appeared a little rusty and at times lacked emotion as they played their first game of the fall season without James their starting pitcher. Although MW kept it close for the majority of the game, WVU had a strong 3rd inning rally that MW was unable to overcome.

MW is expected to bounce back quickly, especially in the fast paced fall season. The quick turn around time between games should help regain the chemistry that propelled them into the playoffs just a few weeks ago.

MW plays again tonight at 8pm.

Reinventing Television 2

A wired magazine article on John Stewart and The Daily Show.

Your contract goes through 2008. How do you think people will be watching the show then?
Stewart: Through their nipples. I believe the show will come in through one nipple and will be broadcast out the other through some sort of projection device.
Karlin: And if you have three nipples, you’re basically walking high definition.
Stewart: No, listen. We make the doughnuts; we don’t drive the truck. I have no idea. I assume there are people in white lab coats working on that very thing. And I’m sure at some point it will be in liquid form.
