I would just like to share how much of a lifesaver the Internet archive can be!
http://www.archive.org/
In case you are not familiar this site stores copies of popular web
pages from as far back as 1997. So for example if you wanted to know
what www.wvu.edu looked like in September 1999 you can go to their
site and browse the entire site as it was in September.
Its really cool, and saved me a ton of time, I’ll explain… I was
filling out a job application and one of my former supervisors (from
1999) had a very difficult to spell last name (Loukota) and I was not
sure if I was spelling it correctly on my job application. He used to
work at the WVU College Business and Economics but he has since left
there several years ago. Well I was able to go to the internet
archive and look up the website from when I was employed and browse
the employee listing to find the correct spelling of his name.
Now I know it probably would not have mattered if I spelled it
incorrectly since he was my supervisor so long ago I highly doubt that
they will be contacting him but since I’m filling out a couple job
applications a day right now I thought it would be worth my time to
look it up and get it right.
OK, thats the end of my not so impressive story.
Anyways, check it out, its pretty cool (at least I thought it was, but
then again I’m a dork so what do I know).
